What is SmartPonics?

SmartPonics is a smart hydroponics controller that allows you to monitor, control, and automate (MCA) your home hydroponics system at any scale, all at a beginner-friendly price. Many people are starting their own household hydroponics systems and SmartPonics will allow them to have peace of mind knowing their system is running smoothly and can be monitored and controlled at any time. SmartPonics also allows anyone to MCA any size hydroponics or aquaponics system, whether it's a home, school, or business system.

At the heart of SmartPonics is the controller, which acts as the brain of the system. It connects to various modules that sense key metrics like water level, temperature, O2, and pH levels, and control devices such as pumps, lights, and thermal elements. Everything is monitored and controlled via the SmartPonics app, and the system can run autonomously in auto mode.

Hardware Overview

Controllers

SmartPonics will offer two controllers: Standard and Super. The key difference is extendability. The Standard Controller supports one Power Module, one Sense Module, and one Screen Module. The Super Controller supports these modules as well as an Extend Module, which allows additional Power Modules, Sense Modules, Screen Modules, and Extend Modules.

Modules

The Power Module includes four relays, configurable to control water and air pumps, lights, thermal elements, or other devices. The Sense Module features four ports, configurable to measure water level, temperature, O2 levels, pH levels, and more. Each sense module comes with these four sensors, and additional sensors can be purchased from our website to expand capabilities.

The Screen Module allows users to quickly view system metrics and control system devices. The Control Module allows users to connect custom dosing pumps and food dispensers, which can be controlled and automated like regular devices.

App

The SmartPonics app will allow users to configure, monitor, and control their system, including adding modules, configuring devices and sensors, and defining Screen Module layouts.

About the Creator

Hello! My name is Mitchell Peck, and I'm the creator of SmartPonics. I live in Marietta, Georgia with my family and dog. I have been an app developer for a few years now and have over five years of experience with hardware development and design, primarily with Arduino and Raspberry Pi. You can check out my developer portfolio here.

Creating smart hydroponics systems is important to me because I've seen the consequences of unmonitored systems: overflowing water, dying fish and plants, and mold growth, often leading to complete system failure. By making hydroponics systems smarter, we can prevent these issues, ensuring thriving systems with minimal interaction.
